Everything you need to know before putting Octopus to work on your catalog.

Yes. Each row of your import becomes a dedicated page — either a product collection or an editorial piece. Octopus groups the relevant products, writes titles, descriptions and slug, then publishes to Shopify.
Before each creation, Octopus checks a semantic index to ensure no near-duplicate page already exists. This prevents two pages from competing on the same query and diluting your ranking. If a duplicate is found, the page gets the "Cannibalization" status instead of being published.
Google doesn't penalize automation itself — it penalizes low-value content made to game rankings. Octopus generates distinct, useful pages: one search intent per page, structured from your real catalog, with an anti-cannibalization index that blocks duplicates. Your manual edits are never overwritten. That's exactly what Google recommends: pages that answer a specific query.
Only for AI writing: Editorial mode in Hybrid / Generation and AI collection intros. Product mode and Editorial in Aggregation (curation of your articles) work without a key. When a key is used, it's yours: you're billed directly by Anthropic — Octopus takes no markup.
Yes, natively. Validated pages are created in your store with slug, metadata and internal links, ready to be indexed by Google. You keep full control and can edit or unpublish them anytime.
It means the keyword doesn't have enough products or data to generate a quality page. You can enrich your catalog, merge the query with another, or block it if it's not relevant.
Imports are processed in background batches by a dedicated worker: you can close the app, generation continues, and a server restart blocks nothing (interrupted keywords stay re-runnable). Each job shows its "success / total" progress with direct links to admin and storefront.
Anytime, from Shopify billing (100% native) — the change is instant and prorated. Your quota is the number of pages Octopus maintains for you: it doesn't reset monthly, it frees up. You're warned at 80%. At the cap, delete pages you no longer need (their slot frees up immediately, with a 301 redirect) or upgrade. Failed keywords never consume quota; a separate attempt cap simply protects the service from massive no-result imports. Cancelling returns you to the Free quota (10 pages); your already-published pages stay live in your Shopify — Octopus never deletes your content.
Because a generated page left alone goes stale. Octopus collections are manual collections: without upkeep, new products never enter them and removed products linger. Your subscription pays for that ongoing work: daily re-sync with your catalog, an up-to-date anti-cannibalization index, 301 redirects on deletion. Every maintenance pass is visible in the app — including the ones where everything was already up to date.
Yes. The Scale plan (5,000 active pages) is built for multi-store — install Octopus on several Shopify stores — with dedicated support. Ideal for agencies running multiple clients — see the Agencies page.
Octopus works from the data you control: product types, tags, vendors and option names on your product pages. That's what makes it predictable — no black box — but it means result quality mirrors how well your catalog is organized. Thirty minutes spent filling in product types and cleaning up tags improves Octopus, Shopify's native search and your storefront filters alike. We show you how in Organizing your Shopify catalog.
